Q & A with Chaske Spencer at Seattle Twilight Convention

I have to be honest, I had Games Night Saturday and wanted to shop so had decided to not stay for Chaske's Q & A Saturday afternoon.

After meeting him Friday Night, however, we changed our minds and all agreed we couldn't miss him! I have to tell you how humble, down to earth and REAL this guy is. His voice is so sexy and his smile and laugh are captivating.

Here are a few photos (I have way more but I am so tired so uploading and editing and tagging are not on my wish list of activities tonight) but enjoy the couple photos for now and the summary of what he talked about at Seattle Twilight Convention.

< [PS More Stuff on my facebook - Mandy S Mind]

He came up on stage and said he was used to being with the guys and it felt a bit intimidating all by himself. That seemed to change once we got going as he smiled, laughed and answered questions. I really think he is a class act, so sincere, honest, humble and likable.

Here is a summary of what was discussed:

  • Chaske said his fave actress was Kate Winslet.

  • He loves to Travel & meet artists and musicians, His roomate is in a band called 5 o'clock heroes.

  • He plans to visit La Push later this year.

  • He loves NYC. Living there as a broke actor going to plays/theatre/studying/culture/being anonymous on the street was a great time in his life.

  • His Fave part of New Moon wasn't a part he was in but when Rob & Daniel fight. Also, any part with Michael Sheen, who he idolizes. He said he was so psyched when he met Sheen and finds him to be so powerful an actor. When a fan clarified they wanted to know the fave scene in New Moon that HE was in, he said it was the cliff jumping scene, but credited Chris Weitz with making it look so cool adding, "I'm not that cool"

  • He says his family is protective, especially his sisters.

  • On set they goofed around. Always joking/teasing/hanging with the boys-24-7 on/off set like brothers.

  • When asked about a specific funny moment on set he recalled while rehersing at the "wolf house" Dreamy Taylor comes to the door to see them all eating and Bella is there and he is supposed to have those sexy eyes... and as he walked up the screen door slamme dinto his face. Ha Ha.

  • If he could trade places with anyone he picks Michael Sheen. He's a huge fan and has seen all his stuff and appreciates his diversity, calling him an amazing actor with tons of knowledge... a class act.

  • He shared a Chilhood Memory, going to see Empire Strikes back with his family. He had all the toys and wanted to be Hans Solo and remembers being so shocked with he found out Darth Vader was Luke's father, then having to wait 2-3yrs for Return of the JEdi.

  • Another childhood memory is the smell of an air conditioner. He says to this day he will go right up and smell it, and it takes him back to when he was a child, being all hot from playing outside and just sticking his face in the fan or a/c.

  • He said the paparazzi still freaks him out a bit and he is pretty private mostly and knows how to avoid them but realizes it's their job and when it's one or two taking their photos and going is one thin gbut the ones that flash your face and chase you are a bit much.

  • His reaction when he found out he had the part was to fall on his knees and thank god! He had been working but hadn't landed a job and was wondering if he should give up or what.

  • He said the audition was fast... oftne there are multiple call backs and auditions with studio and directors etc but this was quick and he had auditioned for Paul and Jared and when they told him Sam he thought "Who is Sam?" then he read it and was excited.

  • He said it was such a secret and he was so excited he didn't want to have it leak or get in trouble so he didn't even tell his family. He would go to resturants with the guys in Vancouver and they'd whisper and be excited about it together. He was reading the books but secretly so he wouldn't be seen with the books, he took the secret so seriously.

  • His number one fear.... he has many, but he doesn't want fame to change him. He wants to maintain who he is. he realizes he is lucky to be where he is and will stay humble, and never let an ego get in the way. He says once you believe your own hype there is no point. He says he is a very lucky actor.

  • To prepare for his role he had 6 meals a day plus protein shakes. He wanted to gain mass more than be "cut" He is still continuing to get bigger for Breaking Dawn. His daily cycle is protein shakes, eating, going to the gym resting, repeating. Even on weekends he will run or swim. It's been hard having a month off he is is back at it again hard now. He says getting it off is easy, putting it on is hard.... to which he admited "wrong crowd" (as all the women groaned, wishing that was their problem ha ha)

  • He said he had started at about 175 lbs. got up to about 190 lbs. and hopes to reach 210 lbs

  • His fave Cullen? He says they are all cool. It's a great cast they are all humble. Noone really knew most of them before Twilight and they are all great. He says Peter is a classact and a good guy who he admires because he balances his life, wife, kids, he's a great family man who has been around a long time. He loves Tinsel she is like the mother - hen and they got along great and hung out a lot to build chemistry.

  • He says kissing scenes are always awkward but he and Tinsel got along great and she is a beautiful and talented woman, musician, and she's fun to hang out with. They went to coffee to get to know each other before filming and had to kiss a few times while the boys are goofing off, but after a few it was all good and during Eclispe they were like old pro's.

  • His last meal with be an in and out burger and chocolate shake.

  • He says he used to oly land Native American roles but now he is auditioning for just "regular characters" that have nothing to do with being Native American and it is great. He says he isn't against playing Native American roles, if the story is good, but he is over the leather and feathers and playing someone else's idea of what a Native American should be. He says it's opened a lot of doors for him and he has great pride for his people.

  • He spoke about and showed a video for United Global Shift. Speaking about his project bringing attention to the fresh water issues. He blieves water is the next oil and very valuable and he visited his old rez and learned of the issues and how people were trying to take control of the lake water from under the reserve. He is trying to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of this earth. He thinks buildinga water factory on the reserve would offer jobs and help. He said there is a lot of alcohol and drug abuse, poverty, unemployment and domestic violence and he hopes he can riase awareness and connect with people running similar projects and having similar interests to come together for a cause.

    See www.unitedglobalshift.org for more information.

  • He took the free Global Shift Course and learned techiniques to help learn on how to help create a sustainable environment.

  • He describes Kiowa as sweet and like a brother, all of them are like brothers. he says Bronson's funny and fast and loyal. Alex has a maturity, he can talk to him about grown up stuff and they are very close. Julia Jones is a strong actress and a sweetheart. he is honoured to be with all of them and will have continued friendships long after Twilight. He says Tinsel's "my girl, my partner, my friend". They all hang out. He will go with the boys then go chill with Tinsel or Julia, he says, "I have sisters so enjoy time with the ladies too" He says he hasn't seen them since L.A New Moon Premier and was excited to see them Sunday.

  • Before he was cast he didn't know much about Twilight, he'd seen posters in NYC and knew Kristen and Rob's face.

  • He realized how big Twilight was when he left a resturant and the papazrazzi were there flashing away. He said there is no book on how to deal w/ fame, but he has chosen to not go on internet, avoid some magazines, and when he's not working he tunes out that whole world. He knows it's unhealthy to pay attention to that junk. He admits at first he and checked it out but it was too much so he and Alex agreed it was just unhealthy and not worth it.

  • He talks about the paparazzi and says it's funn because he will be walking slouched down the steet then sees a paparazzi and points to Alex or whoever "look there" then they all stand up straight and better posture ha ha. He says it's like getting hit by a car, fast, bright, etc. he says they laugh at themselves a lot but set boundaires for themselves and otherwise avoid routes etc. when and if needed. he knows it's part of the job but decided when to keep his distance and stays within his boundaries.

  • He plays the drums [since he was 15] He would go to the band room and play Metallica, Eric Clapton etc. He had some school lessons, but is otherwise self taught and finds it a good way to take out agression.

  • He loves music and going to see shows and discovering new bands.

  • He compares New Moon and Eclipse filming saying he missed his boys in between and when they left for a few weeks he was lonely. He would walk Robson Street alone, and look forward to going to the gym with Tyson. When they were reunited for Eclipse he described it as going back to school after summer break... lot's of high fives, going out for lunch, dinner, the club. They all keep in contact. He even talked about how they want to all go get a tattoo together after it's all over.

  • He said he dropped out / flunked out of college and got a one-way ticket to NYC with $100 to his name and he loved it there. He was a struggling artist but met amazing people.

  • He says he is an actor and loves it and if he had to choose something else, he may be a photographer, he said he wanted to be a war photographer but decided it wasn't as cool as he thought.

  • Strangest Fan Encounter was a fainter in London. She passed out hard and security wouldn't let him stop in case she was faking. She wasn't faking and he did get to talk to her later .... he says the criers are tough but he is getting used to it, slowly.

His laugh is contagious, I love it.
